Dear Praying Friends,
Wow, how time has flown. We haven’t written since we have been back in the good ole’ USA. It has been nice to be home for a time, but truly we left our heart and work in Peru and do look forward to getting back to the work there. We truly praise the Lord that our trip to the USA went well, with no real problems to be spoken of. Prices and policies of air travel have greatly changed since we first went to Peru. We used to be able to travel with 2 check on bags at 75lbs a piece, with no extra charge. They then backed down to 50 lbs, which was indeed tough. They now have changed things so drastically that on many airlines you now pay for every bag that is checked on (usually $15 for the first bag and many times even more for the second bag). They also many times don’t give you anything on the airline, except something to drink and then want to charge you for any additional snacks, or meals you may purchase. This takes a real toll when an entire family is traveling, and makes booking flights even more difficult now, as you must check all the ins and outs of their policies before booking a ticket. This is not only difficult on us, but on every missionary family that must travel to and from their field on an airline, please keep this in prayerful consideration as missionaries have to travel.
Shortly upon arriving in the USA we had a very busy time as we needed to buy a vehicle, and travel to Ohio to visit our wonderful sending church. Within a week the Lord had supplied us a vehicle at a great price, and we are truly grateful for His provision! The following week we traveled to our home church, visited friends, and headed back to our temporary home in Lansing, Mi, so that Shane could catch his flight and head for Alaska to visit churches. Shane had great meetings in Alaska, and was able to get into one new church. Shane has been doing much of his traveling by himself, since Kathy is not able to travel at that time. He has had meetings in NY, Pa, and KY all of which have gone well. We thank the Lord for good supporting churches, and the great meetings that he has had. We have some down time for November and December, of which we will enjoy spending time with family. We then will get very busy once again in January and the first part of February before heading back to Peru at the end of February. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel throughout these months.
Our family is all doing well! We were supposed to get a letter out in November. We realized this early in November and decided to wait till the Baby was born to write our letter and also make the birth announcement since she was due on November 14th. We certainly didn’t guess that she would make us wait till the end of November to get our prayer letter out! Christina Faith Rice was born on November 25, 2008 weighing in at 7 lbs 7oz and 19.75 inches in length. Mom and Baby are doing wonderful, please continue to pray for both of them.
The work in Peru continues to go well. We are in constant contact with Pastor Fredy, he is doing well. The church continues to do well, for which we are very pleased. They did have to cut back on one of the children’s class, for a lack of workers. Please pray that the people will continue to be faithful, and grow in grace and knowledge of the work of God.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We know and understand that we couldn’t continue without you all faithfully holding our ropes enabling us to serve the Lord. We hope that you have a blessed Christmas and wonderful New Year!
