Dear Praying Friends,

We had asked everyone to pray specifically for Pastor Erick Alvarado Pinedo in Peru.  They have had a rough year since we left.  One family moved out of town, another family quit church and another family left and joined the pentecostals, a few others discouraged with the mass exodus have dwindled down.  I have been talking with Pastor Erick as he has been working to encourage those who left to come back.  I wrote letters to each of the families pleading that they return, to no avail.  This has of course been frustrating to Pastor Erick.  In addition to the poor attendance there has been negative outside influence from some other churches.  Of course we know all these are certainly the attacks of the devil “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph 6:12.  It is for this reason that we have requested your prayers for Pastor Erick several times in the past few months.  I spoke with him just yesterday, and he is bound and determined to knock on doors and push forward to see people saved, baptized and added to the church.  The other negative outside influences were misunderstandings.  They have been cleared up.  We are thankful for your prayers for the work there.  Continue to pray that Pastor Erick would see souls saved, and people would start coming to church.  It is tough to get that first few to be faithful.

I would like to ask you to prayerfully consider helping financially with a special project for Pastor Erick.  Rainy season is fast upon the region of Cajamarca where it often rains for the majority of the time.  I have heard that this year is supposed to be especially rainy.  Pastor Erick has needed a car for a while, and especially durning the rainy season.  Having his son, wife, and himself on his motorcycle in the rain, is just not a good idea.  He is able to purchase a Volkswagen Bug for $1,800.  I would love to see $2,000 donated for this project to help him with papers, tax and everything out the door.  Any special offering that your church could help with would greatly be appreciated.  If you would please pray for this need, it would be a huge blessing for Pastor Erick.  Please mark any offerings for this project as “Peru Auto” and send it to Baptist International Outreach.  100% of the funds will go to Pastor Erick.  Please continue to pray for Pastor Erick and Anchor Baptist Church in Peru as they go into 2016 that God will give them souls for their labor.

Serving the King,

Shane & Kathy Rice
