The Missing Message #

Mark 16:9-10

Introduction

We are in the last portion of Mark. We started through the Gospel of Mark in November of 2024, and we are finally coming to a close. This marks the 51^st^ message I have preached out of the Gospel of Mark. In all reality, we could have done this in a year, but because of special services, it has extended out to almost a full 2 years.

We are at the end of Mark, where many corrupt Bibles say that these verses were not in the originals. The devil is the one that has been sowing doubt about the Word of God since the Garden of Eden. He has the father of deception. He uses people just as God uses people to accomplish his desire and will. He doesn’t call men, he lures them, tricks them, and they corrupt the Word of God!

These verses are written by Mark, they are accurately preserved for us in the King James Bible, and correctly fit the narrative. There is nothing missing or out of place. I’ve entitled our message this AM, The Missing Message, because according to the Bible critics, this would not be a Bible message.

I. A Cleansed Life #

A. Spirit world #

  • Mary Magdalene is only mentioned here in Mark at the end of the book.

  • Just as a quick background let’s look at it, for reference.

  • Luke 8:1-3 – Seems that Mary was saved out of an occult background

    • This is in strong contrast to the Man in Mark 5 who was possessed, and lived among the tombs. Mary apparently lived in town, and had influence!
    • Those who say they can converse with the dead, are not new, they have been around for a long time.
    • People messing with demons, and interacting with spirits they don’t understand!

i. Deception #

2 Corinthians 11:13–15 —13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

ii. Denial of Jesus as God #

1 John 4:1–3 —1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

B. Mary Magdalene’s Personal witness #

i. She Personally witnessed his death! #

Mark 15:40 — There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

ii. She personally witnessed his burial! #

Mark 15:47 —47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

iii. She personally witnessed his resurrection! #

Mark 16:1 — And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Mark 16:9 — Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

  • She probably used to commun with ‘dead’ spirits, but she was not witnessing one of the most powerful resurrections in the history of the World!

C. Her life had been cleansed #

II. A Correction (Mark 16:11-14) #

A. The disciples (10) #

  • No clarification about “them”, but they were close to him, note their mourning.
  • The disciples were the closest to him, likely others too.

B. The Doubt (11) “believed not” #

  • This was too much for them to believe!

i. Separate witness (12-13) – “neither believed they them” #

ii. Hard heartedness – refusal to believe truth. #

  • Sometimes saved people, become hard hearted, and refuse to accept truth

C. The Denouncment (14) – “upbraided them” #

III. The Commissioning (15-20) #

  • Sometimes we preach separation, and holiness (which need preached) and people get the idea that you cannot be used of God unless you are perfect…. That is not true.
  • God took a bunch of disciples who had forsaken God, and didn’t believe the reports of his resurrection, and gave them a task.
  • God has a way of taking a dry, dead, old unbeliever, saving him, giving him life, and using him!

A. Assignment! (15) #

  • The message to preach

i. Baptismal regeneration? (16) #

  • No, because notice the 2^nd^ phrase, “he that believeth not shall be damned” no mention of baptism in the second part.

ii. Signs followed as a seal, this was of God! (17-18) #

1 Corinthians 13:8–10 —8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

iii. The Book of Acts documents this! #

B. Ascension (19) #

C. Action (20) #

  • They went and did what they were told!
  • God used the signs to confirm this was God’s Work!
