Giving to God #
Matt 6:21
Matt. 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
I. Biblical Giving starts with your life! #
A. You are bought with a price (1 Cor 6:19-20) #
1Pet. 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1. You belong to Jesus! #
B. Your life belongs to God #
Rom. 12:1 ¶ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
1. This is the largest issue, you give yourself to God, and everything else will be easy! #
II. Biblical Giving is required by God #
A. Command (Mal 3:8-10) #
1. Tithe = 10% of your income to God #
2. Tithing existed before the law (Gen 14:20) #
Gen. 14:20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
B. Is part of the law (Deut 26:2*, Ex 23:16) #
Deut. 26:2 That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there.
C. Is a principle! (Pro 3:9-10) #
1. "Honour the LORD" - it honors Him! #
2. "with thy substance" - giving him physical possessions. #
3. "firstfruits" - shows priority, and Him being first. #
4. Blessings (10) - Giving is over and over again accompanies by blessings from God! (Mal 3:10, Lu 6:38) #
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
D. Is carried into the NT (1 Cor 16:1-2) #
III. Biblical Giving has a destination #
A. Local Church (1 Cor 16:1-3) #
1. This is the meaning of Mal 3:8-10 - storehouse #
2. This provides for the needs of the local church #
B. Not giving is sin #
1. It is disobedient (Pro 3:9-10) #
2. It is stealing (Mal 3:8) #
Mal. 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
IV. Biblical Giving serves a practical purpose #
A. Paying pastors (1 Cor 9:13-14) #
1. It is Biblical and God ordained that the pastor be paid by the church #
2. Treated well (1 Tim 5:17-18) #
B. Paying bills #
1. We have heat in the church, AC in the church, working bathrooms with running water! #
C. Missions (2 Cor 8:1-5, Phil 4:15-18) #
V. Biblical Giving serves a personal purpose #
A. Proves your sincerity (2 Cor 8:8) #
B. Develops an attitude of grace (2 Cor 8:6-7, 9:6-8) #
C. Is an eternal investment (Mt 6:19-21) #
D. Prioritizes God (Pro 3:9-10) #
E. Builds confidence in God (Pro 3:9-10) #
