A Firm Foundation #

Psalm 11 Introduction A foundation, is something that must be solid, in order to build a building that will not fail in the severe storms that life may throw at us. You will face storms.

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

Powerful Words #

Psalm 12

Introduction

Psalm 12 is a tremendous chapter. Many messages have been written and preached on verses 6-7. I love studying a passage with the whole context, and especially when there are verses so familiar and used. It is refreshing to see them in context. Sometimes it is enlightening to find out they don’t mean what people have used them for.

David’s life is recorded for us in great detail. He is a well known character in the Bible, and history. Lockyer describes him in this way:

Psalm 14

Introduction

You may not notice, but this Psalm is given to us twice. It is recorded in almost exactness to Psalm 53.

This is more of a Psalm that contemplates the wickedness of evil people, warns of the evil works, and ends in a cry for salvation!

Col. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

#Complete Consecration

Psalm 16

Introduction

In reading the Psalm, verse 10 stands out as a very prophetic verse. “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” Ps 16:10. It is quoted by Peter as he preached in the book of Acts. The entirety of this Psalm can be applied to the life of Jesus Christ. We will look at it that way this evening.

Psalm 17:1-3

Introduction

This is a Psalm of prayer. Four other Psalms also identified as a Psalm of prayer are: Psalm 86, 90, 102, and 142.

Many Psalms are prayerful in content, This is a good Psalm in which we can use as a pattern, and example of prayer in our life. There are 4 easy things to spot in this Psalm.

Victory #

Psalm 18:1-6

Introduction

This is a lengthy Psalm. There are only 3 Psalms longer than this one. Psalm 78, 89, 119, This is a very victorious Psalm! Reading it, is of great help and strength to the believer. There are prophetic references to Jesus in this Psalm as well. We will not look at them simply for sake of time. Some of them are very clear. However, I want us to see the victory that David had through God! There are six things that I want us to notice in this lengthy Psalm tonight.

Work through the Word #

Psalm 19

Introduction

Spurgeon says: “How foolish and wicked are those who instead of accepting the two sacred tomes, and delighting to behold the same divine hand in each, spend all their wits in endeavouring to find discrepancies and contradictions. We may rest assured that the true “Vestiges of Creation” will never contradict Genesis, nor will a correct “Cosmos” be found at variance with the narrative of Moses. He is wisest who reads both the world-book and the Word-book as two volumes of the same work, and feels concerning them, “My Father wrote them both.”

A Corporate Prayer #

Psalm 20:1-9

Introduction This Psalm is somewhat of a National Anthem Psalm, thought of during war time. It could be sung as a prayer for the king by the people. It would of course be directed to God. It is an intercessory prayer on the part of the people for their leader. There are parts of this Psalm that are prophetical to Jesus as well.
