The God of gods #

Psalm 82:1-8

Introduction

We have a Psalm of rebuke, or admonition. Not all Psalms or songs are that of praise to God, but can as we have before us, be a psalm/song of rebuke, or admonition.

I. The Authority of God (1, 8) #

A. His Prominence #

  • Demonstrated in two ways:

1. “standing” - #

2. “he judgeth” – He has the final say! They ultimately must stand before Him! #

B. The People “among the gods” #

1. Clarification of context (v6) #

  • The word “gods” is not used to indicate a deity, but rather signifying the authority given to man. Verse 6-7 make that very clear.

Rom. 13:1 ¶ Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Psalm 97

Reminder to God’s People #

Psalm 97

Introduction

Verse 1 as is often the case in the Psalms, gives us the scope, and idea of this Psalm. It introduces Jehovah God, as well as the earth beneath him. Gladness is mentioned in this verse, but then is not brought up again until verse 6. Matter of fact, there is quite a contrast, because doom, gloom, and judgement are mentioned in the next 4 verses, before rejoicing is again brought up. In reading that again, it becomes evident, and noticeable.

Ephesians 6:17-20, 18*

Introduction

The context of Ephesians 6 we are given a list of the Armour of God. We are not going to look at the armor of God tonight, but understand that is the context in which our text is given. It is closely tied to and related to that context.

As a society, it would seem that sin has increased, and our nation has become more wicked, not more godly. The moral fiber of our society, is literally falling apart. Is that our failure? I don’t have to belabor or argue the point, it is clear and obvious.
