    • Gen. 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

    • We live in a lazy society… $50 an hour, no work.
    • People are lazy spiritually… Bible reading… too much work…. They have time for a ball game, friends, and all kinds of other activities. - Preaching to the choir
    • If we are not careful, laziness can creep into every one of our lives! - boiling frogs… (Gibbs)
    • Rom. 12:11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
    • May we not become slothful in our spiritual business.

B. Waster #

  • Waster – one who squanders, consumes or expends extravagantly a prodigal.
  • Prodigal – given to extravagant expenditure expending money or other things without necessity; recklessly or viciously profuse; lavish; wasteful
  • Luke 15:11-13 - “wasted his substance with riotous living”
  • Everyone of us know that is not right.

Which path will you choose? #

Prov. 18:12 ¶ Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

I. Path to destruction or honor (Pro 18:12) #

  • There are two very distinct pathways laid out before us in this verse.

  • The one path, is a well worn path, it looks like the most successful of people have traveled that path before… it looks like it is the path to success if you look at it.

Life Lessons #

Proverbs 18:20-24

Introduction

Lord willing I would like to finish this chapter up. Again, these thoughts are not always tied together, so we will simply take each verse as it stands. The first two verses deal with the same subject matter, so we are able to put those under the same point.

I. Words to mean something (Proverbs 18:20) #

A. Power of words (Pro 18:21) #

1. Your words carry a lot of weight. #

2. Some words, are not helpful. Matter of fact, they are empty over all. #

James 3:10-12 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Introduction

Last week we looked at: Path of Life: 1. Integrity, 2. Ignorance 3. Idleness 4. Intelligence

All the verses we will look at tonight pertain to Instruction. Proverbs talks a lot about instruction. Really, in the Path of life, we have access to a lot of instruction. We pick and chose the instruction we want to follow. As we study the Proverbs, understand that for the most part when instruction is mentioned, it is talking about spiritual godly instruction found in the Word of God. You will find no greater instruction.

Influence #

Proverbs 19

Introduction

Sometimes as christians we get the idea, that we are powerless, and have no influence here on this earth. Jesus said we are the salt of the earth. We are to be a testimony. Much of that has to do with our influence on other people. As a young person right out of Bible college, a pastor whom I greatly respected recommended I read, “How to win friends and influence people.” A book, I never would have picked up and read on my own. There is a practical side to influencing people. If we want to have a good influence, which we should have in our community, we must understand these very practical truths from the Bible to help us understand our influence on people.

Punishment #

Proverbs 19:5, 9, 25, 29

Introduction

The Bible clearly shows and displays the compassion, and love of God. Sometimes, people ask the question, “How can a loving God punish people?” Some people could be confused by that. A mom, that loves her child, will at times have to punish and correct her child. Jesus illustrates the undying love of God in the parable of the prodigal son, and at the same time, we can see the need for correction and punishment in
